KHAO SOK LAKE (Cheow Lan)

Khao Sok Cheow Lan lake

Khao Sok Lake is known locally as Cheow Lan (also spelled Chiew Larn and Chieow Laan). The lake was formed after the construction of Rajaprabha Dam, and as you head by boat from the pier into the wilderness, you will discover a hidden world of stunning vistas and primordial jungle.

Over 100 islands with towering limestone cliffs give the lake its fairy-tale scenery.

The primary jungle is side by side with the water's edge - giving you direct views into the forest canopy where you can see exotic wildlife with greater ease than anywhere else in Thailand.

Cheow Lan lake provides for an amazing view into the sky, the space for magnificent birds to fly from one limestone karst to the next. The bird species include hornbills, hawks, and eagles.

Gibbon calls add to the auditory experience while you watch macaques and langurs swing in the trees.

The further north you move on the lake the more wildlife you will find grazing at the banks – elephants, gaur, deer, and tapir.

Hiking through the jungle, the experienced ranger and guides find tracks of all above mentioned animals and the occasional wild cat.
